Palmwag to Vingerklip, Namibia

2 - 3 Nov 07

Tabletop dinner

Logbook index

We flew low in smooth air through the most beautiful tabletop rock formations of Namibia - the Namibian equivalent of Monument Valley - passing the spectacular Vingerklip rock as we came in to land.
The manager himself drove us to the lodge and we enjoyed a relaxing afternoon by the well-maintained pool.
The highlight of a stay at Vingerklip Lodge is undoubtedly sundowners and dinner on top of the nearby tabletop mountain, Ugab Terraces. It was a 20-minute walk to the top via a steep path and then stairs to reach the 'Eagle Nest' restaurant. Angela found the walk up a little vertiginous and wasn’t looking forward to the descent in the dark after dinner. But in fact the walk down was easier because one couldn’t see further than the next step.

3 November. Before breakfast in the cool morning air, we took a walk to Vingerklip rock and round the other side of Ugab Terraces. We had come to Vingerklip mainly for the views, so were pleasantly surprised to spot baboons, oryx, helmeted guinea fowl, and a korhaan.
