Charming colonial Oaxaca

Logbook index Previous page At last page

The next day, CarolAnn and Joe went to Monte Albán, ruins of the ancient Zapotec capital on the top of a hill near Oaxaca that we had visited in 2002, while Flemming and I visited the museums and churches in town that we had missed last time. We had lunch in a courtyard restaurant El Naranjo, specializing in oaxaqueño food such as mole (generally made with chicken in a rich dark sauce containing cacao). A German TV crew was there to make a film about Mexican cooking and filmed us while the waiter served our dishes.
CarolAnn and Joe joined us for dinner at a restaurant overlooking the zócalo (main square) where we were serenaded by mariachi musicians.
