1814 2 Aug -17 Consul at Bordeax, France. Helped the Duchess of Angouleme , dau of Louis XIV to escape Napoleon and was given a diamond ring and cash as reward. Also preserved £80,000 worth of French Government property

Coat of Arms, Silver shield, black saltire, engrailed, bearing 5 mulletts or,with crest a griffon sejant.
His politics were those of Canning & Huskisson. Friends Duke of Wellington, John Wilson Croker.
His eyesight failed towards the end but he retained the rest of his faculties to his death.
1860 Dec 29 He died at Molesey Grove when living with his son in law, John Wilson CROKER.
There is a long obituary in Gentleman's Magazine. He was noted for his amiability and his hospitality while in Rio etc.
