49 | After the war, Grandpa [Valentine Harry] JARVIS introduced Charles to Jack Guy GULLIVER, a wine and spirit merchant in Aylesbury, and on 15 September 1920, they went into partnership with a Mr. HALLIDAY. Charles was a salesman for the firm, all over Brittain, so his family rarely saw him, except on weekends. He took his job seriously, gaining the distinction in later life being made Chevallier de Taste de Vins in France. He became senior partner in Jarvis, Halliday & Co. The bottling factory was down the Bicester Road, and later the firm had offices in Pall Mall, London, for which Uncle Charles commissioned me to paint a picture of the disembarkation of sherry barrels at St. Katherine's Dock.
