It was published in the Military History Journal, The South African Military History Society, Vol 3 No 2 December 1974 SA ISSN 0026-4016. Flemming As it appears in his obituary, he was strongly opposed to contraception. Pam JARVIS [née Ina Mary Hill HERON] remembers him well. Each time she gave birth to yet another child (she had 4), she received an award of 5 pounds from uncle Eustace.

Account of Eustace St Clair HILL activities and views in the Boer war 1899 to April 1901. Perhaps a key to his character was a note he wrote in his diary on 26 August, 1900: 'I am bound to say my religious zeal was really secondary to my desire for adventure.'
