Swimming with sea lions, giant turtles, sharks and penguins

7 January. Genovesa Island: fur seals, storm petrels and shearwater flying in the wind with frigates that steal the food from them. Red- and blue-footed and masked boobies, lava heron. Red-footed boobies have a blue beak and are the only boobies to nest in trees. The other kinds nest on the ground. Saw an owl under a rock in a small canyon.


8 January. Bartolomé Island
From boat: penguin on rocks then swimming past, king angelfish, black/yellow/white crabs, sea lions and marine iguana.
Snorkelling: swam with sea lions and a penguin that flashed past us as it pursued its prey, 2 white-tipped reef sharks, star fish.
